Technology Readiness Level (TRL) — Read it Like a European Evaluator.

Technology Readiness Level is the shared language of European funding. Knowing where you genuinely sit — and how to evidence it — separates serious applications from optimistic ones.

Section 01

The TRL scale at a glance

TRL 1–3 is research, TRL 4–6 is prototype to demonstrator, TRL 7–9 is system in operational environment to commercial deployment. The EIC Accelerator typically targets TRL 5/6 progressing toward TRL 8.

Inflated TRL claims undermine credibility on every other dimension. Conservative, evidence-backed TRL framing builds trust with technology evaluators.

Independent test reports, customer pilots, certification milestones, manufacturing readiness data and third-party validation are more persuasive than internal claims alone.
